December Newsletter
December already! Where did the time go?! Thank you again for your donations and support toward all the classroom and school charity initiatives. Your kindness and generosity are much appreciated.
Here’s what’s in store for the month:
Mathématiques: We will continue with number sense, meaning mental math
skills and strategies in addition and subtraction. It is essential that the children understand
whole number concepts, place value and basic strategies in order to move on to
bigger and more complicated mathematical equations and concepts. A child who grasps “friends that make
ten/friendly numbers”, doubles and the meaning of a number will have an easier
time transferring that information to bigger numbers and mathematical
sentences. We will also continue with
our measurement unit. Our weekly routines run throughout the whole
year which includes counting, calendar, estimating, word problems, number of
the day, centres, etc. E.L.A.: We will continue with our Robert Munsch Unit. After the “Lunch for Munschkins” we will be doing a variety of holiday activities. Regular class routines will continue throughout the year such as journal writing, centres spelling, message book, poetry, etc.
*Just a reminder, that our "Lunch for Munschkins" will
be held Friday, Dec. 14th
from 11:30-12:30. We are encouraging everyone to dress up as a
Robert Munsch character! J If you have
not already done so, please e-mail me or write in the agenda how many guests from
your family (if possible) will be attending.
Français: This month, we will be doing a variety of holiday
activities. Regular class routines will continue throughout the year
such as journal writing, les sons, question de la semaine, phrase du jour,
poetry, etc.
*Just a reminder for report cards that it is fairly common to see
1’s and 2’s for reading and writing in French for the first term. Once we get
going with our French guided reading groups and the French home reading program
the marks should improve.
Sciences de la nature: We will start a unit on «La position et le
mouvement». We will describe the position of
stationary objects using prepositions such as on, under, above, below, around,
between, beside, in, etc.
Sciences humaines : We will continue with our
unit «Ma
Communauté». We will describe our local community and locate it on a map of
Canada.
Have a great month!
