NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
Bonjour Parents,

The October rush is over and now we’re into November (how time flies!).  Our spider unit has been going well and we will be finishing it in the next couple of weeks.  The children have been working really hard and they will be doing the research themselves for their final spider project.  We are very proud of them!  The project will stay at school as part of their portfolio but the rest of the unit will be sent home once it’s completed.  Their portfolios will be sent home at the end of November as well.  Thank you to our volunteers that helped out in class or with sending treats in for the party.  Much appreciated!

Here’s what’s coming up for this month…

Mathématiques: We will be mainly concentrating on measurement.  They will be learning about non-standard and standard units (mm, cm, m).  The children have started number of the day independently and they will start weekly word problems in their math journals independently (we’ve been doing them all together up to now).  We will be continuing with regular math routines such as math strategies, calendar, number of the day, math games, number sense, mental math skills, etc.

Français: We will be talking about L’automne (fall) and Le jour du Souvenir (Remembrance Day).  A variety of games and activities will be done in French that correlate with our fall theme. We will continue with regular class routines such as journal writing, phrase du jour, poetry, question de la semaine, les sons (au, eau, in), Daily 5 centres, etc. We will also begin with our French guided reading groups and our French Home Reading program (this month for those that are ready).

E.L.A.: After we are finished our final spider project, we will start a unit on the author Robert Munsch (little later on in the month).  We will be doing numerous activities with this.  This unit will trickle into December.  We will be having a family celebration luncheon on Friday, December 14 from 11:30-12:30 in collaboration with this author. More information about this luncheon will be sent home but please be aware that you and your family are invited to come to school for that day/time.  We will continue our regular English routines (same as French but in English).

Sciences de la nature: We will finish up our unit on «L’air et l’eau». We will describe different uses of water and identify ways that we can reduce the amount of water that we use. We will also use the design process to construct a wind chime at the end of this unit.

Sciences humaines: We completed our unit on «La citoyenneté active et démocratique» and we will begin a unit on «Ma Communauté». We will focus on the theme “Moi” and discuss factors that shape who we are such as our family, language, traditions, and community. We will also describe our local communities.

Have a great month!
